It was a horrible experience I had , the front desk lady was cold and standoffish , I was late getting lost around the building after driving an hour and waiting months to be seen , I told her when I got there and she went to confirm with the Dr and said she’d see me . I was given paperwork and mid filling out paperwork literally less than 5mins I was told she won’t see me and I’ll have to book in July almost another 5 months out . The pain of waiting for a breast reduction, if there’d told me no from the time I got there but to be told yes and then no is absurd . It’s already a highly emotional thing to get a doctor for any sort of surgery.I read some posts on a social media group about this but was hoping for better .

My name is Tyranesha B., and on September 23, 2023, I underwent a breast reduction procedure performed by Dr. Jessica T. Goodwin, MD. Shortly after the procedure, I began to notice that my stitches were slightly opening up, accompanied by what appeared to be white pus and a burning sensation in the T-zone of my left breast. This occurred on October 21, 2023. At approximately 9:00 p.m. that day, I contacted the after-hours call line and was transferred to Dr. Goodwin. After explaining my symptoms, she recommended an over-the-counter cream, Bacitracin Zinc, and told me that what I was experiencing was “normal.” As the days went by, the pain under my breast worsened, and the wound continued to open further. I attempted to reach out again to Dr. Goodwin’s office, which was consistently difficult—either no one would answer the phone, or when I was able to speak with someone, I was often told no one was available to help me at the time. When I finally managed to speak with a receptionist, who then transferred me to a nurse or Dr. Goodwin, I was told to come in only if I experienced symptoms such as foul odor, yellow pus-like discharge, itchiness, or burning, as these could be signs of infection. I repeatedly called and emailed the clinic, informing them that I was experiencing every single one of these symptoms. Despite this, I was continuously told to “monitor the area.” It wasn’t until two weeks later—after multiple updates, calls, and a few clinic visits where I was simply “patched up” with surgical pads and given more Bacitracin Zinc cream—that I ended up needing an emergency surgery on November 7, 2023. This surgery became necessary after my stitches fully came undone and my wound had become dangerously large and infected. The worst part of it all is that this appointment for further care was not even considered until I sent Dr. Goodwin a photo of how severe the wound had become, and came into the clinic crying and begging for help because the pain was unbearable. My mother also had to intervene and speak to Dr. Goodwin on my behalf in order to push for urgent treatment of my open wound. As an African American young woman, I felt unheard, unseen, and uncared for throughout this entire process. I felt like I was being treated as a personal guinea pig during my second surgery. Dr. Goodwin even told me that neither she nor the senior doctor had ever seen or experienced a case like mine with any of their previous patient. After the second procedure, I continued to experience severe pain—just as intense as after the first surgery, which I did expect to happen. When I brought this to Dr. Goodwin’s attention, I was told, “You shouldn’t be feeling as much pain as the first surgery since this one wasn’t as intensive, and over-the-counter Tylenol should help.” When I explained that the Tylenol wasn’t relieving the pain, she still refused to prescribe any pain medication. I did, in fact, suffer for weeks in my day-to-day life due to the lack of appropriate pain medication. To this day, I continue to suffer from emotional trauma due to the care I received from Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at Baylor Scott & White Health. I experienced discrimination, neglect as a patient, and ongoing emotional distress at the hands of Dr. Goodwin and her team.

After two different physicians with insurance approvals for my desired procedure, the Most High led me to Dr Goodwin and her staff! They are absolutely amazing and God sent. My results are beyond what I expected and I’m grateful that they help me to my new journey in this stage of my life. She put my health first and that means the world to me as a patient, life changing y’all! 🫶🏽

Beyond happy with my results. We are going on a year post op and it couldn't have gone better. Super sweet staff and Dr. Goodwin did a phenomenal job. I had gone to 3 other plastic surgery consults and I finally found Dr. Goodwin who was more than happy to perform my surgery once I got all my labs and clearance from my gp and neurologist. I would highly recommend her to anyone.
