My 89-year-old mother with dementia was seen by Dr. Michael Romanelli, MD on January 29, 2,026 for a lower eyelid consultation. He was incredibly patient, kind, and transparent, clearly explaining possible surgical options while carefully assessing her condition. He noted improvement from the lubricating ointment recommended by her eye doctor and explained that if the treatment continues to work and her condition does not worsen, surgery may not be needed. After consulting with her eye doctor, Dr. Romanelli personally called us the next day to recommend continuing treatment rather than surgery. As her son and caregiver, I truly appreciated his honesty, thoroughness, and genuine level of care. Could not ask for a better doctor.

Dr. Romanelli was wonderful throughout the process of my surgical experience. He was very attentive to my concerns, and I felt like I was part of the process. All the while, I was very confident in his expertise and opinions about the options for my situation. The surgery went really well! There is not a better plastic surgeon out there than Dr. Michael Romanelli, MD. From my first appointment through three surgeries and extended follow-up care, I experienced a level of professionalism, skill, empathy, and collaboration that is truly exceptional. Dr. Romanelli consistently made me feel informed, supported, and part of the decision-making process. He never talked over my head, but never oversimplified either. I’m a graphic designer and understand process deeply, and he met me exactly where I was—clearly explaining complex technical decisions while respecting my desire to take ownership of my care and healing. My situation began with a small, non-healing scrape on my ear that turned out to be basal cell carcinoma. After an initial excision and skin graft with my dermatologist, pathology came back positive at the margins, leading to a much more complex reconstructive process. I was referred to Springfield Clinic Peoria Heights and ultimately came under Dr. Romanelli’s care—by timing and luck that I’m now incredibly grateful for. From the start, Dr. Romanelli approached my case as a long-term process, openly discussing unknowns and planning thoughtfully for multiple contingencies. When rare and unexpected complications occurred—including additional positive margins after surgery—he was empathetic, steady, and already consulting with peers and forming a clear plan forward. Across three surgeries, his technical skill was outstanding. The reconstruction was precise, careful, and guided by a big-picture vision of how to get me back to “my ear” in the best way possible. Just as importantly, he took a whole-person approach to care—being attentive to my healing, supportive of my post-surgical diligence, and even discussing nutrition and lifestyle adjustments to help my body manage the stress of repeated procedures. His empathy around the mental and emotional toll of prolonged uncertainty meant more than I can easily express. Dr. Romanelli’s assistant, Olivia (RN), is wonderful—kind, responsive, and genuinely caring. Together with the staff at Springfield Clinic Peoria Heights, they form a care team that made me feel supported and never alone. After everything—including complications, infections, and moments where reassurance was just a phone call away—I’m confident not only in the outcome, but in the process. Dr. Romanelli has assured me he’ll continue to fine-tune until I’m happy, and I trust him completely. Bottom line: if you need a plastic surgeon, you will not find better care than Dr. Michael Romanelli and his team. His technical excellence, thoughtful planning, and genuine humanity made all the difference in an incredibly difficult journey.

I recently had a breast reduction with Dr. Romanelli and I truly couldn’t be happier with my experience! His attention to detail is exceptional and it shows in my results. His bedside manner is calm, reassuring and never rushed. He was always available to answer my questions and make sure I felt comfortable every step of the way. His nurse, Olivia, was amazing as well! She helped me navigate insurance, appointments and medications with so much patience and support. The entire staff at the office makes you feel welcomed and cared for from the moment you walk in. I’m incredibly grateful for the whole team and highly recommend them!!
