I read a story today from a physician on the importance of reviewing your female providers in a male occupied field so here I am. I was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer in June 2025. I got all set up with a tumor team at Mayo for my treatment plans, including a double mastectomy to be done by a breast surgeon. It turned out that the chemo was not killing my tumor and it was growing, so much so that we had to interrupt chemo to take me to surgery. My tumor was close to my skin but hadn’t invaded yet, however, they were going to have to remove that skin with my tumor and were worried they wouldn’t be able to get my surgical opening closed without it. That’s when Dr. Day was consulted as my plastic surgeon — I wanted to go flat and she made me feel so comfortable making that decision and discussing other strategies to make me feel good about the final result. Dr. Day and her resident at the time discussed the 3 different places where skin may need to be taken to cover my chest incision. Surgery day came and she marked my skin for plan #1 - a latissimus flap. Dr. Day visited me post-op and told me that she was able to advance skin I had available to close up my incision without moving/removing any other skin — this was a surprise and the best case scenario that we weren’t expecting to be possible. My surgery was able to be shorter and my recovery was much easier than it would have been had she not made it work with what she had. I am so proud to have had surgery done by her, I will forever brag about how great she’s been. She even stopped by unannounced to check on me at my post-op clinic visit with her PA. Dr Day has no patient or human communication skills whatsoever and is quick to attach labels and issue patient bias letters to patients. This doctor avoids communication at all costs and thus stay away from her. she caused my depression and ptsd and eating disorders to come roaring back which is not fun to deal with. this doctor is a resident at mayo who has no business in treating humans, well i wouldn't let her treat anything living.
