Rude and arrogant . Just sending warning letters to patients he has never met before at the first time of missing an appointment and threatening not to make an appointment with him if an appointment is missed again and that my Primary Dr. should look for other Surgeon not him. First time in life to get a warning letter from a Provider (Health). Who are you to send a warning letter as if it has happened before? Did you know the reason for missing the appointment? Do you even care? Or you cared to send a warning letter because you lost some dollars because something happened and didn’t come in?. I will not choose you or accept an appointment with you at any cost! I was wondering who is this doctor with such an attitude and then I checked him up on google and yes, no wonder! Stop treating people as if your services to some patient's are for free.

Dr. Stams and the plastic surgery team at Carle are absolutely incredible. I waited 10 years to have this surgery, and Dr. Stams made the entire experience worth the wait. He’s one of the kindest, most patient doctors I’ve ever met — he takes the time to answer every question (even when anxiety makes you ask twice) and truly cares about his patients. The medical staff in his office was amazing — kind, professional, and so supportive every step of the way. In a situation where trust is so important, I felt completely confident and cared for. The care I received before and after surgery was top notch, and the results are amazing. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience or a more compassionate team.

Had top surgery on 10/15 and no words can explain how great of an experience I have had. Stams and the staff are absolutely amazing. They make time for you everytime I have had to call or message in the portal they respond. Stams is very upfront he doesn’t try to upsell he gives you options but he doesn’t try to lead you one way or another. I wish he could be my primary care doctor.

If you're trans and looking for a phenomenal top surgeon, I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Stams. He's knowledgeable, kind, and he even has a great sense of humor. I felt 100% respected through the process, and all of my questions were answered promptly (within reason for a doctor's office!) The wait time was minimal, and even though there were a few hurdles that ultimately led to rescheduling, the entire team was so quick to handle it and get me in, and incredibly empathetic through the process. Not only were the staff and surgeon wonderful to work with, but my results were AMAZING! I definitely wasn't a perfect canvas to work on, and Dr. Stams fully exceeded my expectations. I'm genuinely not only happy to be in my body now, but excited to be in my body. I could not have chosen a better surgeon. My aftercare has also been wonderful so far, and every nurse I've worked with in the plastic surgery department has been gentle, kind, and reassuring. I'm glad I don't have to get this surgery again, but if I did I'd be back here in a heartbeat! 10/10, would recommend.

Do NOT use this surgeon. Schedule a consultation visit if you would like to make up your mind for yourself (although I really wouldn’t recommend wasting the money), but it will be well worth spending the extra time to find someone else in Indy, Bloomington, Peoria, Chicago, Northwestern, or any handful of third world countries without access to basic human rights or clean drinking water. Stams (I refuse to address him with the doctor prefix) is inappropriate, inattentive, has zero bedside manner, does not pay attention to you, will try to upsell you, and has absolutely no business dealing with cancer patients (we saw him because my wife was recently diagnosed with breast cancer). I have spoken with two other breast cancer survivors who have met with him before – the first refused his services because of a bait and switch situation, and the second, who did move forward with him, had her surgery botched. He may or may not be a decent plastic surgeon, but he is not fit for post-surgical reconstruction (or dealing with people in general) or dealing with cancer patients. Take a moment to consider why someone with 15+ years experience has fewer than 5 reviews online. We ended up going with Paige Holt out of Bloomington, IL, and we couldn’t be happier. She specializes in post-mastectomy reconstruction.
